Poker Tells Part 2

A poker tell is any displayed habit, physical reaction or behavior that supplies other players with information regarding what he or she has in his or her hand without knowing.

The following poker tells are supplied from poker's top players. These poker tells can be applied to advanced or novice players.

Checking Hole Cards

If a flop comes up along with several connectors and you notice that your opponent checks back and forth from the board to his hole cards, you can be sure that he is drawing for a straight or flush but his mind is not yet fixed on what to do next.

For you to avoid this situation happening to you, you must learn to memorize your cards and then not look back at them while you are pondering your choices of action.

Watch the Eyes

This is one reason why advanced poker players wear sunglasses or even caps or visors when they are playing poker, they simply know that eyes don't lie. Novice players can't help but stare at their big hole cards if they have it, so that can mean that they have longer times of peeking.

Another example with this poker tells is that a player may try to pose a question about what is in your hand, looking someone straight in the eyes means that they are being dishonest and this is good information to know what is in their hands.

Facial Expression

This is one poker tells that professionals try to disguise by looking downward or by wearing a cap. Their goal is to avoid the classic stare-down that most poker players are known for. Advanced players may study your face if you have a weak hand and on the other hand this may show in contrast if you have a pretty good hand.

Anxiety

This typically happens in players when they are confronted, facing and/or anticipating confrontation. Psychologists call this reaction the "Flight or Fight" stimulus response that links back to the old days when we were still cavemen and cavewomen.

This includes physical changes like flexing of muscles, palpitating heart rate, eye pupil dilation and dry throat. In the game of poker, when one player has a pretty good hand they are normally prepared for confrontation and they may display some of these physical changes.

You may notice players with chests that are expanding abnormally, or you may also see other player's voices become somewhat higher as they make some comment. Some advanced players in the game of poker will stare at the vein on the top-side of your face to try and take notice of some blood pressure changes.

While bluffing, a player may display anxiety, but they still know they will fold the hand if a re-raise takes place and because of this they may look quite comfortable.

Poker Tells can give you many different pieces of information or meanings. Poker tells can mean a lot of things and usually advanced players tend to master these poker tells to avoid being caught.
